Walter Grey, the son of a family of New York social climbers, moves out west to a rustic mining town to escape from the pressures of society. He falls in love with Mary, a horse rider from a traveling circus. To the great disappointment of Walter’s family, the two marry and return to New York. There, Mary sees first hand the truth behind the society her new family is so desperate to break into.
